Candida Albicans, more commonly known as Candida, is a living organism: it is a type of yeast. Candida yeast is found naturally occurring in your body, but it is supposed to exist in a harmonious ratio with other microorganisms in your gut. When this balance is upset, such as after taking antibiotics, Candida begins to take over and can cause health problems and infection to the point of extreme illness.
Once the Candida begins to take over the microorganisms in you intestinal tract, it proliferates to the point of even burrowing holes in the intestinal tract and making its way to other organs of the body via the bloodstream. It is at this point that many serious symptoms and health problems will begin to occur. Many common illnesses and maladies can be attributed to the proliferation and spread of Candida.

There are various ways in which to treat Candida, some of which can be used in conjunction with each other. The method used may also depend upon the severity of the Candida proliferation.
Candida can be a one time flare up that can be treated with antifungal medications. These antifungal medications will treat the flare up and deal with Candida in the short term. However, Candida can be a long-term chronic condition that requires another type of treatment. To treat Candida initially and then keep it from coming back, there are two ways to deal with this affliction and they can be used in conjunction. Candida can be treated with the proper diet and with something called pro biotics.

Your diet may be your best defense against health problems associated with Candida. Because Candida is a living organism, it also requires nourishment to survive. This is where your diet becomes your friend. The goal is to feed yourself while starving out the Candida yeast. In order to do this you will have to make some changes and really focus on what you eat.
You shouldn’t get too upset about having to change your diet to defeat Candida, as you can still eat great tasting foods and enjoy your meals. It’s more about cutting out some of the foods that the Candida craves, leaving you plenty to choose from.
Here are the foods to avoid while trying to starve out the Candida yeast.
- Alcohol
- Bread
- Fruits and fruit juices
- Junk food (candy bars, etc.)
- Mushrooms
- Processed foods (sausages, hot dogs)
- Soda (no diet soda either)
Candida craves carbs, especially the fast acting carbs from sugar. Sugar is the number one thing you have to concern yourself with while battling Candida. Once the Candida is under control, you can go back to eating breads and fruits, but you must stay away from them while the Candida yeast is widespread throughout your intestines and body.
Here are some foods you should try to consume while fighting Candida.
- Beef (not processed)
- Chicken (not processed)
- Eggs
- Fish/Seafood
- Fresh Garlic
- Fresh Ginger
- Vegetables
- Asparagus
- Cauliflower
- Cucumbers
- Leafy greens
- Peppers
- Spinach
Most vegetables are good to eat provided they don’t have sugar added to them such as in canned vegetables.
Another successful treatment for Candida is pro biotics. Pro biotics are the helpful bacteria that reside in your stomach and intestines and fight the Candida yeast. Your stomach and intestines contains billions of bacteria at all times with most of them being helpful. It is when these bacteria are wiped out by antibiotics and become overwhelmed by Candida yeast that health problems arise.
By taking a pro biotics supplement you can introduce quantities of these helpful bacteria to battle the Candida yeast. Pro biotics also increases the acidity of the intestines, which is harmful to Candida as it requires a more alkaline environment in order to proliferate.
There are several different types of pro biotics that can be useful in the treatment of Candida.
- Lactobacillus Acidophilus (L Acidophilus)
- L Casei
- L Bulgaricus
- Bifobacterium Bifidium
- Streptococcus Thermophilus
Understanding Candida and how to treat it can go a long way toward a healthier more productive you. You must remember to consult your physician before beginning any sort of Candida treatment and keep your physician informed along the way. Different people require subtle differences in the treatment of Candida. The process of Candida treatment may require some trial and error before getting the right diet and the right mixture of pro biotics. This should be done under the supervision of a doctor.
